Read this on MahaPeriyava wordpress....an English translation of the same:
Sri Narayana Bhattadri used to talk with Lord Guruvayurappan (Sri Krishna) at Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple.
Once Bhattadri asked the Lord..."what do you like the most?"
Lord's reply - "Ghee paayasam (sweet rice)".
Bhattadri - "If I don't have money for making Ghee Paayasam, then what can I serve you?"
Reply was - "Just offer chipped rice and jaggery".
Bhattadri again - " If I don't have those also?"
Lord's reply - "Offer me butter or banana or milk or curd. I will accept them".
Bhattadri again - "Sorry, but what if I don't have any of the four you mentioned above?"
Lord - "Offer me Tulsi leaves or a small teaspoon of water. That will provide me satisfaction". Bhattadri with lowly and meek voice - "If I don't have even that?"
Then the Lord replied: " Wouldn't you cry when you haven't got anything to offer me? Those 2 drops of water are enough to please me".
As soon as Bhagavaan said this, Bhattadri just broke out in tears. Bhagavaan doesn't expect ANYTHING from devotees. He only expects unalloyed and true Bhakthi (devotion).
